Golden Globe Predix (September)

Well the Golden Globe nominees were announced. Here are my thoughts and predictions.

Best Picture Drama
Bandito Express
***Cinematheque***
Cherry Blossom
The Jersey Widows
Gone Since November
Extradition

This is definitely a hard month to predict the bait of the month. It can go any way, but I'm going to go with cinematheuque, which I would say has the best reviews. Bandito Express and Gone Since November have the highest chance at an upset, but I wouldn't be surprised if Cherry Blossom pulled off a win.

Best Actor Drama
Gaspard Ulliel for Cinematheque
***Robert De Niro for Cherry Blossom***
Michael Madsen for Bandito Express
Matt Damon for The Second Coming
Ryan Gosling for The Blue Max

Another really hard category to predict. I'm going to go with De Niro, who has the star power and the advantage of being an underused actor on the site. Plus, the role for him in Cherry Blossom is baity beyond belief. But....then again you can say the same for Ulliel. Expect, Ulliel to make an upset, with Michael Madsen as a longshot.

Best Actress Drama
***Jeanne Tripplehorn for Gone Since November***
Helena Bohnam Carter for The Red Menace
Holly Hunter for The Jersey Widows
Angela Bassett for Mrs. King
Judith Light for Down in Heaven

This is a race between Tripplehorn and Carter. I'm going to go with Tripplehorn because the bait she is in has more overall buzz and great reviews, while The Red Menace have been getting mixed reviews.

Best Picture Comedy/Musical
***Daniel The Informer***
The Death King
Exposed
Grosse Point
Newport

I think Daniel The Informer has this in the bag. It's been getting great reviews for the most part. But the same could be said about The Death King. I'm going with Daniel The Informer, with either The Death King or Exposed getting a possible upset.

Best Actor Comedy/Musical
***Jack Black for Daniel The Informer***
Michael Angararo for Tapestry
Tony Shalhoub for Scout's Honor
James Marsden for Newport
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers for One Life Two Live

Jack Black has the buzz and the role to win. I would say Marsden has a chance at a possible upset.

Best Actress Comedy/Musical
***Jacinda Barrett for Exposed***
Amy Adams for Grosse Point
Virginia Madsen for Scout's Honor
Ellen Page for Tapestry
Anne Hathaway for Three Uncles and a Bride

Another tough one for me. I'm going to go with my gut and say Barrett, but really this could go any way. I'm thinking the best possible upset will be Amy Adams, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ellen Page pulled a win.

Best Supporting Actor
Steve Buscemi for Bandito Express
Mark Ruffalo for Extradition
Alfred Molina for Gone Since November
Samuel L. Jackson for Bandito Express
Daniel Auteuil for Cinematheque
***Dennis Hopper for Exposed***

This just gets harder and harder. I'm just gonna take a shot in the dark and say Dennis Hopper wins. He has the support, but it could easily go away. I think Daniel Auteuil deserves the win though, so I'm thinking he could easily take it. Samuel L. Jackson is also another possible choice at an upset. Really, this is anyones game.

Best Supporting Actress
Uma Thurman for Bandito Express
Miranda Richardson for Exposed
Eva Green for Cinematheque
Keira Knightley for One Life Two Live
***Michelle Yeoh for Extradition****
Gretchen Mol for The Jersey Widows

Again, I have no idea. I'm guessing Yeoh, because I would say she had a great role in Extradition, but Uma Thurman could take it. Eva Green is also a possibility, but once again this is anyone's game.

Best Director
Tim Burton for The Death King
Paul Thomas Anderson for Project Sin
Ridley Scott for To Dwell In Evil
***Bernardo Bertolucci for Cherry Blossom***
Edward Zwick for Extradition
Quentin Tarantino for Bandito Express

Thanks for the support for PTA for Project Sin. I greatly appreciate it. I'm guessing Bertolucci will win this category. It was a very inspiring directing choice, that was pitch perfect. Not to mention Cherry Blossom is a great bait. It's very possible for Quentin Tarantino to pull off an upset, since he is a fan favorite. If not Tarantino, then Ridley Scott could also pull off an upset.

Best Screenplay
***Quentin Tarantino for Bandito Express***
Christopher Hampton & Gillaume Laurant for Cinematheque
Mark Peploe & Bernardo Bertolucci for Cherry Blossom
Sarah Polley for The Jersey Widows
Richard Curtis for Exposed
David Benioff and John Logan for Extradition

This is between Bandito, Cinematheque, and Cherry Blossom. I think Tarantino will at least walk away with one award (since the bait was just so perfect for him), and since I'm sure it will not be for Director, I'm thinking this will be where he wins. But expect an upset from either Blossom or Cinematheque

Good luck to everyone, and make sure you vote! Every ballot counts! Believe me!
