Zgamer's Reactions to September 2007 Awards

Before I go into individual awards, I have to say this was a very competitive competition. While the Big 8 was almost a given, the creative categories were a bunch of tight races, surprises and expected wins. So, here's my analysis of the September Official Awards.

CREATIVITY AWARDS

Best Plot / Synopsis
Bandito Express

No surprises here. Well deserved.

Best Awards Campaign
Cinémathèque

Again, no surprise. This and Bandito were the two most popular baits of the month, so it was obvious they'd win one or the other for this and the previous award.

Best Online Awards Campaign
Knights of the Old Republic

I am very excited we won this one. Bryce and I put a lot of work into it. Thanks to those who voted for it.

Best Title
To Dwell in Evil

The strongest of the list, so no complaints.

Best Box-Office Potential
Shattered City

This is where I was surprised. It's not that it's a bad choice, but I think it was too safe a choice. I would have picked Bandito Express.

Most Likely Bait to Become a Cult-Film
Shamus

Again, a bit surprised. It's a good bait, but I though there were others that could have also been picked.

Most Original Bait
Project Sin

Very well deserved. It was the most original not only for its story, but for its style and its daring pick of PTA as the director. Congrats Bryce.

Most Original Character
Crash Benson (played by Mickey Rourke) in Stunt Man

The most developed character of the bunch. Congrats D.W.

Best Cast
Isaac's Storm

I could have sworn Bandito Express had this in the bag. Oh well.

Best Casting Choice
Jeanne Tripplehorn as Jackie Kennedy Onassis in Gone Since November

The strongest competitor of the group, so no complaints.

Best Crew
The Blue Max

Questionable but fitting.

Best Tagline
"Grief is a journey that must be taken, they took it together"
The Jersey Widows

This is a tough category to predict, so I don't have much to say.

Best Poster
To Dwell in Evil

I thought Complete Cycles would have won, but Tony did a great job with this very forebodding poster. Well deserved.

Funniest Bait
The Death King

Again, my thanks to those who voted for it. I thought Exposed was going to get this one.

Best Author of the Month
Special Achievement on Writing and Creativity
Maia (The Jersey Widows)

While it wasn't horribly innovative, Maia did a great job writing the bait. So congrats.

Best Director
Quentin Tarantino, Bandito Express

Pretty much expected by this point.

Best Actor
Robert De Niro, Cherry Blossom

See above.

Best Actress
Jeanne Tripplehorn, Gone Since November

See above.

Best Supporting Actor
Daniel Auteuil, Cinémathèque

I think you're getting the idea.

Best Supporting Actress
Gretchen Mol, The Jersey Widows

By reading this, you can guess the Big 8 was by far the most predictable race of the competition.

Best Original Screenplay
Bandito Express

However, each one deserved their win.

Best Adapted Screenplay
Gone Since November

And right up to here, everyone would probably agree with me.

Best Picture
Cinémathèque

Daniel's fans might complain, but I thought this was very well deserved. It was so beautifully written and had such a baity concept that the academy would not be able to refuse this if it was made. Plus, this would be a hit for film buffs. So while Bandito Express was great, this was without a doubt the best of the month.

Thanks for your comment Z. And you're totally right they were very predictable, however I know you're being humble but KOTOR would kickass anyone else in that category in the box office.

I'm just happy that Cinematheque won Best Picture. I wanted to lose to it SO badly. One of my all time favorite baits.

Now that's a way to acept defeat. Glad you are able to be so humble when others would pout. Great job this month anyways Daniel.
